A beautiful afternoon in April, we still had an hour left before our guests would arrive. Come, let's take the ugly duckling and go for a tour, pierewaaien we call it. Out and about without a plan, just enjoying ourselves.
So we ended up with an old couple sitting on plastic chairs under a shed next to their house. That shed was at once warehouse, museum, carport and terrace. You know, we wouldn't find it nice enough, but they sat intimately content to relax. So that's how you live to be 100.
We chatted, got some fruit from their tree and so while talking we found out that there was a winemaker around the corner.
Of course we had to investigate that, and right away.
With the duck we came scurrying through the gate and the owners were home. Enthusiastically we were shown around and we were instantly delighted. What a nice place, only 4 km away from us.
But now to find out if the wine was ok too....
Two days later we did a tasting at this winery, Fabrizio Dionysius.
We tasted a white Viognier, truly sublime. After this, some red Syrah wines and a rose. Delicious! With a fully loaded car we drove home again, all excited.
The tour is in good English, comprehensive and informative. The lady conducting the tour is a sommelier and has worked for the family for 14 years.
We say, highly recommended!
